The Daily Digest: Monday 21 May 2012

Today’s daily news digest from iamCornhoolio reveals the release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines, a secret level in Diablo 3 and a cross-over Left 4 Dead title.

On one hand fans will be spitting acid that the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines has been pushed back again to February 12 2012. On the other hand this should mean no more slippage for the title that lets players fight in first person as the United States Colonial Marines or in third person as the universe’s deadliest killers (the Xenomorphs). No release date has been announced for Wii U owners, but as details of the console’s launch haven’t been fully announced that’s no real surprise.

The Diablo 3 forums are full of posts directing PC gamers towards a new dungeon in the game, cheekily titled “Development Hell”. Players finding the dungeon will be rewarded with a Feat of Strength and a chance to encounter the risen dead as members of the development team.  During the quest “A Shattered Crown”, in Tristram Graveyard, you have a random chance of entering the hidden dungeon. Check #15 on this forum post for a better description.

Finally, Ulf Andersson, Game Director at OVERKILL, has released the following statement about a Left 4 Dead and Payday cross-over title:

“As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into PAYDAY The Heist, which has led to various rumors. We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between OVERKILL and Valve is currently in production.

We are working on a very cool blend of PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”

Unfortunately there are  no screenshots to drool over, but the prospect of zombies overpowering bank robbers is a juicy one.
