NEOGEO X GOLD Limited Edition Announced

UPDATE: Blaze have advised us today that UK pre-orders are available via Funstock, here. Good news for fans of SNK fighters: Ninja Masters joins the list of 20 games already bundled with the highly anticipated new handheld.

There hasn’t been a new SNK console in over 13 years and die hard SNK fans are already chomping at the bit to get their hands on the 4.3″ Neo Geo X.  Today the release date for the handheld has been confirmed as 6th December 2012 and one new free title has also been announced, joining the 20 games that are already bundled with the system for early adopters.

Ninja Masters is a Nineties fighting franchise similar to Samurai Showdown and features 12 playable characters. It’s main feature is allowing players to switch between hand-to-hand and weapon-based combat, offering huge combo counts and multiple styles of play.

The NEOGEO X GOLD Limited Edition is set for a worldwide release on December 6, 2012 for a suggested retail price of $199.99. The NEOGEO X GOLD Limited Edition is currently available in the US for pre-order through a number of retailers, including Amazon.com. European distribution is being organised through Blaze, but details for pre-ordering are scarce. Expect availability through resellers, importers, eBay and the usual sites like Play-Asia, who haven’t started taking pre-orders yet, but these are due to open soon.

The Gold bundle retails at $199.99 and is packed full of goodies, including:

  • The NEOGEO X Handheld – 4.3″ LCD screen, stereo speakers, 16:9 and 4:3 display options
  • The NEOGEO X Station – houses NEOGEO X Handheld for charging and audio/video output capabilities via HDMI and composite cables (for a true “classic” experience)
  • One NEOGEO X Arcade Stick – for an authentic arcade experience

The 20 bundled games are listed here and include King of Fighters, Fatal Fury and King of the Monsters. The NEOGEO X Gold apparently has 2GB of flash memory on board and supports SD cards. Additional games will be released after launch.
